On Friday, July 6, 2018 at approximately 11:00 am the Emmet County Sheriff’s office responded to a two vehicle personal injury accident at the intersection of US 31 and Powers Rd, Littlefield Township, according to Sheriff Peter Wallin. A southbound vehicle, a 2004 Ford Escape, driven by Marvin Stanley May, age 91, of Mackinaw Island failed to see another southbound vehicle that was stopped waiting to turn left into Citizens National Bank. May attempted to avoid hitting the vehicle by swerving to the right. May then struck a 2002 Dodge van stopped at the intersection of Powers Rd., driven by Dennis Gerald Renaud, age 64, Indian River, MI.
Marvin May, his passenger Crescencia May, age 65, and Renaud were all transported to McLaren Hospital. Renaud was pronounced dead at McLaren Hospital. Marvin May was transported from McLaren to Munson Hospital in Traverse City. May passed away at Munson Hospital on Sunday July 8, 2018.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Alanson First Responders, Alanson Fire Department and Emmet EMS.
The accident remains under investigation.
