2018-09-12: Sheriff Press Release

On Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at approximately 8:40 p.m., the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding a convicted sex offender allegedly being in possession of child pornography and a felon in the possession of a firearm, according to Sheriff Pete Wallin.  Detectives and Deputies initiated an investigation into the alleged criminal activities and obtained search warrants for the suspect’s computers and cell phones.  Search warrants were executed at the suspects residence on West Conway Road, Little Traverse Township and at the suspect’s place of employment.

Evidence seized during the execution of the search warrant was submitted to the MSP Computer Crimes Unit in Traverse City for analysis. The subsequent investigation led deputies to submit a warrant request to the Emmet County Prosecutor’s Office. 

The Emmet County Prosecutor’s Office issued a twelve county felony warrant for Richard Allen Hood Jr., age 47, Harbor Springs, MI.  Two counts of Using Computers to Commit a Crime, eight counts of Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material, one count Weapons-Firearms-Possession by Felon, and one count Weapon-Felony Firearm.

On Monday, September 10, 2018, deputies arrested Richard Allen Hood Jr. for the alleged criminal offenses.  Hood was arraigned in 90th District Court on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, and his bond was set at $200,000 Cash/Surety, and remains lodged in the Emmet County Jail.
