2018-10-02: Sheriff Press Release

On Thursday, September 27, 2018, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a BOL was put out from Cheboygan County regarding an alleged armed confrontation that had occurred in Wolverine, possibly involving a Emmet County resident that lived on Pickerel Lake Rd, Springvale Township, according to Sheriff Pete Wallin. At approximately 5:50 p.m. Deputies with the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect vehicle at the alleged suspect residence with the alleged suspect still inside the vehicle, along with a male passenger. The driver of the suspect vehicle was identified as Jason Michael Carter, age 36, Petoskey, MI and his passenger was identified as Robert Benjamin Reynolds, age 37, Boyne Falls, MI. During a search of the property, deputies located a firearm near the residence that matched the description of the firearm that was used in the alleged confrontation that occurred earlier in Cheboygan County. Another firearm, that was loaded, was also located under the seat in the suspect vehicle. Both Carter and Reynolds were taken into custody and transported to the Emmet County Jail.

On Friday, September 28, 2018, the Emmet County Prosecutors Office issued a sixteen count warrant, two felony counts of Weapons – Firearms – Possession By Felon, one felony count Weapons – Carrying Concealed, two counts of Felony Firearms, one felony count Malicious Destruction of Fire or Police Property, five felony counts of Police Officer – Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing, one count of Interfering With Electronic Communications, one felony count of Tampering With Electronic Communications, one misdemeanor count of Operating While Intoxicated, one misdemeanor count of Domestic Violence, and one misdemeanor count of Malicious Destruction of Personal Property – Less Than $200.00 on Jason Michael Carter. Carter was arraigned on the charges on October 1, 2018, in 90th District Court, and bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety. Carter remains lodged in the Emmet County Jail.

The Emmet County Prosecutors Office also issued a one count felony warrant on Carter’s passenger, Robert Benjamin Reynolds, for Weapons – Carrying Concealed. Reynolds bond was set a $5,000 cash/surety. Reynolds posted bond and will be arraigned in 90th District Court on October 18, 2018.
