JUNE 21, 2021 — NOTICE OF SERVICE CHANGES
Due to the recent changes in regulations concerning COVID-19, the Sheriff’s Office is able to allow citizens access to lobby service windows. The lobby in the Law Enforcement Center as well as at the Correctional Facility are now open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. although some services will remain unavailable. The public is welcome to call (Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) with questions or for information on non-emergency matters:

Before making a trip in person, please check the website to determine if the service you need can be handled remotely.
SERVICES THAT REMAIN UNAVAILABLE
• PRELIMINARY BREATH TEST: Remains suspended until further notice
SERVICES NOW AVAILABLE
• PISTOL SALES RECORDS: Drop off in person or mail to Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, 450 Bay St., Petoskey MI 49770
• FINGER PRINTING: By appointment only at Correctional Facility
• FOIA REQUESTS: Requests for all reports may be submitted in person or submitted online here.
• ACCIDENT REPORTS: Request forms and procedure by mail or in person at the Enforcement Division (3460 Harbor-Petoskey Rd, Harbor Springs, MI 49740). More info is available online here.
• POD BOX: Prescription and Over-the-Counter Drug (POD) Drop-Off boxes are available in person at the Correctional Facility and the Enforcement Division.
• BONDS: There are three options for posting bond — in person by using the kiosk located in the lobby of the Correctional Facility; by going online at www.accesscorrections.com; or by using a bonding agent.
The Sheriff’s Office looks forward to restoring all services and will closely monitor COVID-19 guidance to determine the best time to do so.

Sheriff Peter A. Wallin
Sheriff Wallin was appointed by a three-member board after the death of Sheriff Jeffrey P. Bodzick. Sheriff Wallin began with the Office as a road deputy in 1981, later being appointed to the position of Undersheriff by Sheriff Bodzick. Sheriff Wallin is also a long time resident of Emmet County.
Undersheriff Matt Leirstein
Matt Leirstein was appointed Undersheriff on July 16, 2022. Undersheriff Leirstein has been employed with the Sheriff’s Office since March of 2007. He has held multiple positions within the Office including certified law enforcement deputy, undercover detective for Straits Area Narcotics Enforcement (SANE), law enforcement division supervisor, and most recently, Det/Sgt.
Jail Administrator Brenda K. Ford
Administrator Ford was appointed by Sheriff Wallin in 2003. Prior to this position, Administrator Ford served as a Corrections Officer and has been with the Office since 1996. She is a life long resident of Emmet County, graduating from Harbor Springs High School.
