Fire at Boyne Highlands Resort Dec. 11, 2016

On Sunday, December 11, 2016, a call came into 911 at approximately, 1:34 a.m., of a fire on the third floor of  Boyne Highlands Main Lodge, Pleasant view Township, according to Sheriff Pete Wallin.  Firefighters from the Harbor Springs Fire Department  and multiple other fire departments, EMS, and law enforcement responded to the scene.  12 people were injured and were transported to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital by ambulance and personal vehicles.   One person was transferred to a hospital downstate from serious smoke inhalation.  One of the other injuries resulted from jumping from an upper floor balcony to escape the fire.  Sheriff Wallin wanted to commend all agencies and Boyne Highlands personnel  for their assistance in the incident.

The incident remains under investigation by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, Harbor Springs Fire Department, and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
