About 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office announced an investigation into an online threat of violence made to a student of Alanson Public Schools. The Sheriff’s Office and Alanson Public School administration believed it was in the best interest of student safety at that time to have the school enter a secure mode. The public was notified via the BeAlert System and Emmet County officials posted the alert to its website homepage as well as to its Facebook and Twitter accounts. The notification also informed the public that the schools would be on a delayed release while the investigation was underway. Just before 3:30 p.m., the Emmet County Sheriff Pete Wallin announced he and his deputies had determined the threat at Alanson Public Schools was made from out of the area. The Sheriff’s Office issued an “all clear” and stated sheriff deputies would remain on scene for a supervised release of students. Release of the Alanson Public school students was conducted at 3:30 p.m. with CharEm students getting released at 3:40 p.m. No further information is available at this time.
