With all 22 precincts reporting, results are now in for Emmet County in the March 10 primary election.
Emmet County saw a voter turnout of 31.62 percent with 9,310 total votes cast. The Democratic Party primary election had 5,732 ballots cast and the Republican Party primary election had 3,443 ballots cast. An additional 135 non-partisan ballots were cast as well as four blank ones.
In the U.S. presidential primary elections, President Donald Trump garnered 3,201 votes in the Republican primary. Bill Weld got 35 votes, Mark Sanford had 22 votes and Joe Walsh received 14 votes. Another 152 votes were cast as “uncommitted” and two write-in votes were made.
In the Democratic primary election, former Vice-President Joe Biden received 2,943 votes. Senator Bernie Sanders got 2,099 votes and Representative Tulsi Gabbard had 42 votes. The rest of the ballots cast were distributed among the other candidates, all of whom have already exited the primary contest.
The Petoskey City ballot initiative to amend part of the ordinance concerning recreational marijuana establishments within the city received 964 “yes” votes and 917 “no” votes. With the initiative passing, the City of Petoskey will change its ordinance to not permit a recreational marijuana establishment within the city without first getting approval of the majority of voters of the city in a general or special election.
The Petoskey City ballot referendum to repeal the ordinance allowing medical marijuana facilities within the city failed to pass. The referendum received 1,000 “no” votes and 844 “yes” votes.
The proposal on some Emmet County township ballots to increase the Sinking Fund Millage for Pellston Public Schools passed with 699 votes in favor and 447 not in favor of the increase.
